Homeopathic Help for Morning Sickness

In the first trimester of pregnancy, the child grows faster and more intensively than at any other time in its life. The pregnant woman's metabolism is easily overwhelmed by the rapid growth in this phase. For many women, this results in morning sickness. On the one hand, this is a sign of an intact pregnancy, on the other hand, it is a very unpleasant condition.

We covered the why and some practical tips that you can try at home in this article. Now we will look at how homeopathy can help treat morning sickness.

This article was written by Melanie Serret, a certified homeopath for babies, children and adults. Together with her partner Sina she has a practice for osteopathy and homeopathy for children and adults and for body therapy in Berlin.

The homeopathic approach to morning sickness

Homeopathy is a holistic healing method that addresses both physical and psychological symptoms. For me, a symptom is always an important indication that attention is needed at this point.

Homeopathy can be very effective in helping with nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. The aim is not to stop the nausea in the first trimester of pregnancy, but to calm the vomiting and improve the overall condition of the pregnant woman.

The following information is important for me when choosing the right homeopathic remedy:

  • When did the symptoms start?

  • At what time of day do the symptoms occur?

  • What worsens or improves the symptoms? (e.g. cold, movement, wetness, heat, noises, food, hot baths, closing your eyes)

  • What triggers the symptoms? (e.g. smell of food, exercise, stress)

  • What food cravings or aversions exist? (e.g. aversion to meat, fish, milk, cheese or craving for fruit or cold drinks)

  • What symptoms accompany the complaints? (e.g. drowsiness, bloating, fainting, sweating, irritability, sour-bitter taste in the mouth)

  • What is the emotional state of those affected?

When choosing the right homeopathic remedy, the particularities of the person to be treated are also important to me.

For example, a woman who was very professionally involved before the pregnancy and whose career was very important and who therefore may struggle with the new life situation needs a different homeopathic remedy than a woman who, for example, is afraid that her body may no longer look the same after birth or a woman who may be afraid of losing her freedom through the birth of her child. These are just a few examples.

These fears are often subconscious and it is important to address them carefully.

It may be that the pregnancy was longed for and the pregnant woman does not allow herself these fears. This can cause her body to react and produce symptoms.

We humans are complex beings and consist of more than just our bodies.

The inclusion of a person's character, their likes and dislikes, their fears, their vitality and talents, their energy level, their family background and ultimately their physical symptoms are very important indications for me in my homeopathic work and help me to find the right homeopathic remedy.

This also applies to nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

If pregnancy can be experienced as a time that energizes and fulfills the pregnant woman, in which she can concentrate fully on herself and the growing life within her, this can set the course for a loving mother-child bond.

Pregnancy, the time around birth, the postpartum period, the time of breastfeeding and the associated challenges can benefit greatly from homeopathic support. If you’d like to get support, you can check out Melanie’s profile and get in touch with her.
